According to legends, the method of playing colors on Holi was started from the play of Radha and Krishna. It is a place were lots of people comes together and celebrate the festival with lots of music and colors. The celebration of Holi starts a week ago from the festivals. So I prefer the best place to visit during this festival is Mathura.

2) Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh


In the Top 10 List, the No 2 spot goes to Vrindavan. Vrindavan the place where Lord Krishna spent his childhood. The favorite among the travelers from India, abroad as well as the journalists and it is one of the best places to do photography at the time of Holi. Vrindavan’s Banke Bihari Temple’s is the best place where you can enjoy this festival. The celebration of the festival starts a week ago so it means you have the whole week to play Holi. The Holi methods in the temples of Vrindavan is unique as there is no play of regular dry or wet colors, but the play with flowers and so it is also called as Phoolon wali Holi. 

3) Barsana, Uttar Pradesh


In the Top 10 List, the No 3 spot goes to Barsana. Barsana the birthplace of Radha Rani. Barsana has a very interesting way to celebrate the festival Holi and it is called Barsana Lath mar Holi. In the Lath mar Holi, the women of Barsana beat up men with sticks (aka lathis)  and the men try to shield themselves as much as they can. Not only there is lath mar the people also play the Holi with colors and with lots of sweats, thandai and also plays songs related to Radha and Krishna. The people call this festival as Basanta Utsav (Spring Festival). Inspired by the colors of Holi and spring, the famous Bengali poet Sri Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore started the festival as an annual celebration in his Vishva Bharati University. The people of Santiniketan celebrate Holi with lots non-toxic colors, flowers, cultural shows, folk music, Tagore’’ songs, and with lots of foods. 6) Anandpur Sahib, Punjab


In the Top 10 List, the No 6 spot goes to Anandpur Sahib. Anandpur Sahib also refers to Anandpur. This place comes to my Top 10 list because this place celebrates Holi in a very different way/style. They follow the traditional way of Sikh warriors and it is also called as Hola Mohalla. It was started by the Great Guru Gobind Singh Ji for the protest against Mughal. At Anandpur fierce warrior monks perform a physical activity and the traditional art of the gathka and it is a form of martial art. If you want to enjoy Holi in a unique form then you must visit Anandpur Sahib.

7) Hampi, Karnataka


In the Top 10 List, the No 7 spot goes to Hampi. Hampi is also known for there Paradise full of boulders, majestic ruins and also for holy Tungabhadra. The celebration of Holi in Hampi is a rare view. They celebrate Holi for 2 days with a play of colors, drumming, dancing, against the backdrop of ruins of the grand Vijayanagar empire. 

8) Purulia, West Bengal


In the Top 10 List, the No8 spot goes to Purulia. Purulia is also known as Manbhum City. The celebration of Holi is celebrated for 3 days and is also famous for its Basanta Utsav folk festival. It is the best place for celebrating Holi because of its flavor of tribal and folk entertainments in extension to colors of spring. But the famous thing to see in the Basanta Utsav folk festival is Chau dance, Darbari Jhumur, Natua dance and the remarkable songs of West Bengal’s traveling Baul musicians.

9) Jaipur, Rajasthan


In the Top 10 List, the No 9 spot goes to Jaipur. Jaipur is also known as the pink city because the whole city was painted in pink color just to welcome Prince of Wales in the year 1853. The celebration of Holi in Jaipur is like the royal style. First, the city was celebrating Holi with the elephant festival. Lots of fun activities were performed like Elephant parades, elephant beauty contests, folk dances, and tug-of-war between elephants. The event hasn’t been held since the year 2012 due to pressure from animal rights groups. 

10) Mumbai, Maharashtra


In the Top 10 List, the last spot goes to Mumbai. Mumbai also called Amchi Mumbai or The City Of Dreams. Mumbai is, without a doubt, one of the best places to visit in  India during Holi. In Mumbai, every year during Holi lots of events is been organized. In this event, lots of famous celebrities come together with the public and celebrate the Holi in a different style. The event is followed by the play of colors, Bollywood music, dance, food and inhibited fun.
