Kilchoman Machir Bay The Best NAS Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky




Kilchoman Machir Bay was Awarded the Best NAS Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky at the IWSC 2016.

The Kilchoman distillery is a distillery that provides single malt Scotch whiskey on Islay, an island located in the  Inner Hebrides. The distillery is located on the western side of Islay, near the small village of Kilchoman. The place made it the most westerly distillery in Scotland till the Abhainn Dearg Distillery began distilling on the Isle of Lewis.
            
Machir Bay' is the first general release from Kilchoman and is a vatting of 3, 4 and 5 year old whiskies, matured in fresh bourbon barrels and finished in oloroso sherry butts for eight weeks.

It is one of the six Scottish distilleries still offering one of the best old floor-maltings and will be unique in having all the parts of the method - growing barley, malting, distilling, maturing and bottling - carried out toward Islay.
The distillery first filled casks on 14 December 2005 and after that distillery began the bottling of 3-year-old single malt in the year September 2009. Kilchoman also thinks to create the five, eight, ten and also the twelve-year-old bottlings. The whisky will actually age in bourbon barrels, though sherry casks will also get some employment. The first official Kilchoman, the "Inaugural release" was been issued in the year 2009 and the first 100% Islay whisky was going to be distributed in the year 2011.

The whisky created by the Port Ellen maltings  are pleated to the equal levels as Ardbeg, while the malt peated on their own floor maltings will be roughly 25 ppm.

Kilchoman releases several bottlings and from that the most significant ones include:

  • Machir Bay 46°ABV, was issued in the year 2012, 2013 and 2014.
  • Loch Gorm 46°ABV, was published since the year  2012.
  • Sanaig 46°ABV, originally was published for the French market and was launched worldwide in the Year  2016.
  • 100% Islay 50°ABV, this is the grain to glass contribution from Kilchoman.
